Pregnancy hair colour and highlighting dangers and risks

In every case we will give you all the information we have and would recommend that you make a final decision you are comfortable with.

There has been very little study on the effect of hair dye in humans during pregnancy how ever there has been minimal testing done with animal subjects with minimal effects on foetal development and no study on the effects during breast feeding.

What we do know is that the chemicals from hair dye can be absorbed through a woman's scalp (and the skin on her hands if she does not use gloves). Subsequently hair dye chemicals can be detected in a woman's urine within hours of applying it to her head and there is some research that links the use of hair dyes during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy with possible birth defects to date there is no formalised study to substantiate this. However, many caregivers think that the amount of chemicals used in hair dyes and the frequency of their use during pregnancy is not enough to be of concern. There was however, a study at the Keck school of medicine in America that has shown the repeated use of hair dye may result in a 50% increase in the risk of bladder cancer in women who regularly use a chemical dye.
Some experts recommend vegetable dyes as a good alternative to synthetic chemical agents during pregnancy.

You may find a large selection of so-called herbal preparations at your local health food store. But buyer beware: In addition to various "natural" substances listed as ingredients, many of these dyes also contain some of the very same synthetic chemical compounds (e.g., p-phenylene diamine, dihydroxybenzene, and aminophenol) that the major cosmetic companies put in their permanent and semi-permanent dyes, which is what we wish to avoid. Pure henna, which comes in a number of colours, was the exception. Henna is a semi-permanent vegetable dye considered to be very safe, though not everyone loves the limited hues it impart!

This is why we use the Farouk Bioglitz professional colours and the Chi Ionic colours. Being rated the safest colour for use during pregnancy, they provide spectacular results that any professional colourist would demand and the peace of mind that comes with using an ammonia free organic based colour.  Come in and smell the difference.

no significant changes were
